Design of Y ring

The shape and model of Y ring can be designed and selected according to using condition and reference standard; The groove design can generally know shape, size and tolerance according to the selected Y ring. As general design principle of sealing device, the following points should be noted:

1. The cavity containing the seal should be designed as simple, compact and easy to disassemble.

2. The gap between the support and the compression parts and the cylinder wall (or piston rod) should not be too large and too small. Otherwise, under the action of eccentric load, it is easy to produce clamping phenomenon and cause damage.

3. When used in a dusty working environment, it need used reliable wiper seals.

4. When designing the installing parts of seals, try to avoid excessive stretching when installing the seals.

5. Should pay attention to the installing direction of seals, don’t apply load pressure to the back of the seals.

6. The sliding surface of seals is relatively rough, generally Ra=0.2μm is suitable, if the working condition is not serious, Ra=0.4μm is suitable. The sliding surface are not allowed to have machining defect.

Installation precautions of Y ring

1. The end of hole or shaft must be chamfered, such chamfered 30º, in case the seal lip is damaged during installation.

2. If the diameter of the thread or the undercut of the head of the piston rod is the same as the diameter of the piston rod, it should be installed with a special sleeve, or can also be installed after thread part winding tape.

3. Pressure oil holes should be avoided on the inner wall of the cylinder or the piston rod through the seal passes. If the seal must pass through the perforated part, to prevent damage to the seal, the edges of the holes should be chamfered or rounded.

4. In order to reduce assembly resistance, lip rings and mounting parts shall be coated with grease or working oil.

5. When installing the seals, prevented from carrying iron filings, sand, cotton or other materials; and thoroughly clean the sealing parts and grooves.
