Floating oil seal is a common name for floating seal. It is a kind of mechanical seal in dynamic seal. It has super sealing performance in harsh working environment such as multi-pulverized coal, silt and water vapor. It is Is a compact mechanical seal, mainly used in low speed and heavy load applications. 



It has the advantages of automatic compensation, reliable work, simple structure etc. after wear and end face wear, and is widely used in coal mine machinery. Such as bulldozer running mechanism, scraper conveyor head (tail) sprocket assembly, roadheader loading mechanism and cantilever section, continuous miner left and right cutting drum and reducer.




The floating oil seal is installed on the planetary reducer of the walking part of the construction machinery, and the end face of the component is dynamically sealed. Because of its high reliability, it is also used as a dynamic seal of the output shaft of the dredger bucket wheel. 



Such seals are mechanical seals and generally consist of a floating ring of ferroalloy material and a matching nitrile rubber O-ring. The floating rings are used in pairs, one rotates with the rotating part, and one is relatively static, which is quite different from the oil seal ring.




Structural principle



The floating oil seal consists of two same metal rings and two rubber rings. The working principle is that a pair of rubber rings form a closed space with the cavity under the support of the metal ring (but not in contact with the shaft), When the metal ring rotates, the two ground surfaces closely cooperate and slide relatively to each other. 



On the one hand, it ensures good operation, on the other hand, it effectively blocks dust, water, sludge, etc. from the outside, and protects the internal lubricating grease from leaking.




Sealing principle



The sealing principle of the floating oil seal is that the two floating rings are deformed by axial compression depend on O-ring, and the pressing force on the sealing end surface of the floating ring is generated. 



With the uniform wear of the sealing end face, the elastic energy stored by the O-ring is gradually released, thereby performing axial compensation. The sealing surface can maintain a good fit within the set time, and the sealing life is generally above 4000h.
