Will the Material of O-ring Affected by Pressure?

The common Shore hardness is 50 to 90 in O-rings. DSH Seals tells you according to the sealing principle of O-ring, high Shore should be applied when under low pressure. In order to be push in the seal gap, back up ring should be applied with O-ring when the pressure is over 10MPa.

When under high pressure, O-ring can be easily implosive. That means, when O-ring stays under high pressure for a long time, the High pressure gas molecule will penetrate into the its interior.Then once the pressure decrease outside the O-ring, the high pressure gas molecule inside will diffuse rapidly and burst it. Especially O-ring used in value seat, when the value opens, the pressure abruptly release, the O-ring will be easily burst inside. Thus, high density O-ring is better.
