Differences between O ring and Y ring

Update:2017-04-30

Y ring is a typical lip seal with a Y shape section. While O ring is a circle rubber ring with a O shape section. DSH Seals sorts out the differences and shares with you.

      Advantages of O ring.

      1. Small size of end face, the installation groove can be designed as Integral groove.

      2. Easy to install and groove machining.

Disadvantages of O ring.

1. Poor sealing performance.

2. Easy to roll, turn around and damage.

3. Large friction force under low pressure.

4. The reduce of friction force will affect sealing performance

Applications:

1. Guiding value in small size.

2. Little leakage is permitted applied to rob and piston.

Advantages of Y ring.

1. Good sealing performance.

2. Small friction force under low pressure.

3. Self-compensating when litter wearing, long life service.

Disadvantages of Y ring.

1. Single acting, a pair of sealing rings should be adopted when under double acting, and the sealing structure is complex.

2. Large size, oil will be trapped between two sealing rings, and result in damage by inverse pressure.

3.Large size of end face, Separate groove is needed, and the groove machining is complex.

Application.

Be applied to rob and piston with high requirement of sealing performance
